WE DON’T ASK ANYTHING FOR CHRISTMAS, WE DIRECTLY TAKE THE STREETS! NO TO SEGREGATION, VIOLENCE AND EXPLOITATION, DOCUMENTS FOR ALL!
Christmas is coming with its goods proposals…. And today, the 6th of december 2019, we open the holiday season by reminding you what’s happening in the italian countryside. Today we block the streets.
We decided to organize and to strike again; today we get out in the streets united, Italians and immigrants, to respond to the repression, the evictions and to the laws that want us more and more controlled and exploited.
We do it at the same time in the Foggia province and in the Gioia Tauro plain, two of the regions where we live an work in the agro-industrial sector, and where in these years too many of us died due to the violence of laws that segregate, empoverishes and silence us.
Those are the reasons why today we decided to block some of the most importants junctions of an industry of exploitation which from the agroindustrial districts to the consumerist shopping centres takes down in a vortex of precarity and extortion lots of workers like us, italian and immigrant.
Only a few days ago, the last of a long list of fires burnt down the ex-Gran Ghetto of Rignano, in the Foggia province, destroying the houses of lots of people. And once again the governement responded to this situation with an emergency tent camp. In the Foggia province, just as in the piana of Gioia Tauro, the only housing solution for farm workers are emergency tents or the streets, even if in Rosarno there are empty houses built with european funds especially dedicated to seasonal workers. We are tired to repeat that we can’t accept anymore this giant business that takes profit from the containment and the control on immigrants trough containers, tent camps, and centres for the detention and the expulsion.. We are workers and we have the right to live in houses, to have normal rent contracts and to get residence permit!
Today we especially address the Minister of Interior, the responsible one for the laws that make us more and more poor and expoitable. Nowadays, it is not just impossible to regurarly enter in Italy, it is even more and more difficult to renew the residence permit. When the Decreto Salvini became effective it rendered irregular lots of people that previusly, although with enormous difficulties, could live and work regurarly with an umanitarian stay permit. Since police headquarters and territorial commissions clearly told us that they can’t do anything due to the law, today we use our strenght to directly speak to the governement. There is much talking lately about reforming the last security laws: we think that no reform is going to change anything. We want the regularization for everybody through the total abolition of the last two security laws, the reintroduction of the umanitarian stay permit and of the quotas of entry in the country for work. We want the possibility to renew the residence permit and to access basic services even without residenza (fixed abode). For this purpose we prepared a plateform of rivendications, to bring to the public debate concrete proposals about immigration laws.
Even if we are conscious to be the most exploited ring of the chain of the agroindustrial industry, we know very well that we are also its main mechanism. If we stop, the whole system stops. From where would profit come, without our work force?
We want documents and, as we have been repeating for years, we want real houses for everybody, freedom of movement and the end of all politics and system of containment and control.
Today, from Puglia to Calabria, we want people to listen to us and we want to spread our struggle to the whole contry: until we get answers, we will block your Christmas.
